Alabama is celebrating their 40th anniversary on the road. The group is officially launching their "Back to the Bowery Tour" with a pair of sold out shows Friday and Saturday night at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina's Alabama Theater -- which was named for the group.
And the band is honoring the community with the name of their trek. The Myrtle Beach club The Bowery is where Alabama got their start back in the early '70s.
In addition to honoring their 40 years as a group, Alabama's tour is also marking their return to the road. The "Back to the Bowery Tour" is the group's first extensive run of dates since their 2003-2004 Farewell tour. Alabama intended to retire from the road after that trek, but the devastating tornado outbreak in April 2011 prompted them to return to the stage. After staging benefit shows to help with storm recovery efforts in their home state, Alabama decided to resume their performing career.
