Good News Story: Anyone seen my surf board?

SURFBOARD RECOVERED 5,000 MILES FROM WHERE IT WAS LOST

Back in February of 2018, Douglas Falter was surfing in Hawaii when he wiped out and lost his surfboard. It was heartbreaking for Douglas because that surfboard was one of his all-time favorites.

Then last month, two-and-a-half years after losing the board, he found out that it was not actually gone forever.

An elementary school teacher named Giovanne Branzuela bought the surfboard from a local fisherman in the southern Philippines -- more than 5,200 miles away -- and made it his mission to track down the owner.

Giovanne contacted the man who made the custom board, who was then able to contact Douglas and let him know the board was safe -- on the other side of the world.

For now, travel restrictions are making it difficult for Douglas to be reunited with his long-lost surfboard, but he’s fine with this.

Mostly, he’s happy that the board is being used by someone learning how to surf, who promised to take good care of it.
