TriMet bus driver Mike Thomas in Portland, Oregon knew something was up when he first saw a yellow lab walking down the middle of Capitol with an unknown man. The man was only holding onto Cooper by the collar.
Thomas stopped by the bus, and out of safety concerns to let both of them get on board. When the dog wasn't coming to the unknown man and the man didn't know the dog's name, Thomas definitely realized something was up. He then overheard the man trying to sell the dog to other passengers.
After about an hour ride, the man was about to get off with the dog and Thomas stepped in. He grabbed the dog's collar and said "This dog's gonna stay with me. I would be getting him back to his family."
That family is Jane Murphy of Portland and she was in Hawaii on vacation. Her dog was being cared for by her son, who both still have no idea how Cooper escaped or was stolen. Either way, Cooper is now home safe all thanks to Mike Thomas.
