Michelle Booker-Hooks left her kids, who are two and four, in the car as she got out to pump gas. A man, later identified as 36-year-old Ricky Wright, then jumped into her vehicle and was about to drive away.
That's when she ran back to the car, reached into the glove compartment and grabbed her gun. When Wright wouldn't stop, she shot him in the face. The SUV then crashed into a pole. Neither Booker-Hooks nor her kids were injured.
Wright was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, charged with unlawful restraint and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Booker-Hicks, who just recently got the gun and doesn't have a license for it, says, "I wasn’t necessarily worried about my car. I was more worried about my kids. I had to do what I had to do to defend what was mine, which are my kids." (KDFW-TV)
As a parent, this is one of the scariest things I have ever heard of... Leaving your kids in the car just long enough to pump gas and someone tries to take your car with your children still inside? I have no words. I'm just glad to hear that their family is okay after the incident.
Do you think the mom handled things the right way? Or was there something she could have/should have done differently?
