A Florida man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to buy and 8-year-old girl who was shopping with her mother at Walmart.
Authorities say that Hellmuth Kolb was arrested on Saturday after a woman claimed he offered her $200,000 for her daughter while sitting on a bench inside the Port Orange Walmart, according to WKMG-TV.
Mother, Tracy Nigh, says that the 81-year-old Kolb sat down and began talking to her about being married and that it was a "friendly conversation." But then Nigh says that he began badgering her about selling her daughter to him.
"The first amount was $100,000, the second amount was $150,000, and then the final amount was $200,000," said Nigh. "I then said 'No, we have to go.'" It was at this point, she said Kolb allegedly grabbed her daughter's wrist and kissed it, according to WJAX-TV.
After the encounter, she alerted store security about Kolb, and they were able to find the incident on store security cameras. After that, he was identified through an earlier credit card transaction. He was charged with simple battery and false imprisonment, booked, and then later released from the Volusia County Jail.
