A family in Atlanta, GA recently got a surprise when they went to the mailbox: a voter registration card for 18 year old Cody Tims... the family CAT!
Ron Tims went to check the mail and was shocked to see a voter registration card addressed to their beloved pet who had actually passed away 12 years ago. The Tims, who keep their cats ashes in a green urn, say that they were surprised and somewhat amused by the mishap. The Georgia Secretary of State's office didn't find the mishap quite as funny as the family did, however.
The Secretary of State's Office says the application did not come from their office, it was a third-party group and that something nefarious could be the reason why the registration card went out.
They say in a statement “third-party groups all over the country are targeting Georgia to help register qualified individuals. This group makes you wonder what these out-of-town activists are really doing. Make no mistake about it, this office is dedicated to investigating all types of fraud."
Fox 5 Atlanta reports “The Secretary of State's Office says they're quite sure that even if Cody were still alive and showed up at the polls, he wouldn't be allowed to vote since he did not have a license or state ID.”
