Subway Restaurants are in a bit of a pickle with the Irish Supreme Court right now because the five-judge court ruled that the popular sandwich maker's bread isn't actually "bread"?
According to their ruling, the bread in their heated sandwiches has too much sugar to be ruled as the legal definition of how "bread" is made. (Didn't realize there was a legal definition on how bread was made, but okay.)
In a report from Independent.ie, "The five-judge court ruled the bread in Subway's heated sandwiches falls outside that statutory definition because it has a sugar content of 10pc of the weight of the flour included in the dough..." So, if I get this story right, they would be serving their meatball sub on... Cake, then? You know what, I'm okay with that!
Also according to the story, since some sandwiches didn't contain "bread" then it technically couldn't be referred to as "food." Now I don't know about you, but I'm pretty serious about my Subway sandwiches from time to time. Whether it's steak and cheese, grilled chicken, or a meatball... Whatever the case, if I'm hungry, and I get a Subway sandwich, it's food and I'm full!
