Valentine’s Day is Sunday, and there’s no doubt it’s going to look a lot different this year than in previous years. But for some folks it’s not just going to look different, it isn’t going to be happening at all, and for a very sensible reason.
A new LendingTree poll finds:
- Close to 40% of Americans are choosing to skip Valentine’s Day this year in order to save money.
- 44% of men say they are going to skip Valentine’s to save money, while only 35% of women say the same.
- 18% of women say they’d be upset if their partner suggested skipping Valentine’s Day for financial reasons, while only 9% of men would feel the same way.
- Interestingly 59% of women wouldn’t care either way, something only 41% of men agree with.
Of those who are planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day…
- The average person in a couple will spend an average of $144 on their S.O. this year.
- Men are likely to spend more than women, $181 vs. $94.
- Men expect their partner to spend an average of $118 on them, while women expect their partner to spend $112 on them.
