It’s always exciting news when there’s a new baby in the family, but one mom has caused a whole lot of drama with the way she let her family know the happy news.
The mom shares on Reddit’s “Am I The A-Hole” forum, that when she gave birth to her child she and her spouse personally told their parents and siblings, but asked them not to share the news until they were ready. When they were they announced the happy news to everyone else via Facebook, and apparently some members of the family were not happy about that at all.
One family member who was particularly upset was her father’s sister, who before the big Facebook announcement kept trying to call the mom’s parents for updates, but they ignored her call so they wouldn’t have to lie. The mom notes that “within minutes” of the Facebook announcement going live the aunt texted that “she was so hurt that she had to find out via FB because that’s not how family should find out.” And apparently the mom’s dad’s brother was also upset, saying the OP was “ungrateful for family,” and that she was “showing them where [they] stand and that I didn’t consider them to be close family.”
- Other family members are upst as well, but the OP doesn’t see what the big deal is, writing, “maybe that was selfish, but we honestly didn’t think it would be the end of the world for people to find out more than five seconds after the baby was born.” She asked Reddit if she was wrong, and most people agree the mom isn’t.
- “Babies make people crazy for sure,” one person commented, while another added, “Personally notifying everyone is ridiculous,” another commented.
- Finally one called the OP’s family “so entitled and self-absorbed!”
How did you announce your baby’s birth? Do you think announcing it on social media is okay or tacky?
