Now that it’s summer a lot of people are spending more time outside, but apparently many aren’t protecting themselves from the sun, which is not good at all.
According to a new ValuePenguin survey finds:
- 82% of Americans admit they don’t wear sunscreen every day during the summer.
- Only 19% say they wear it between five and six days a week.
- 22% never wear sunscreen, while 21% rarely do.
- And many folks are already suffering the consequences of that behavior.
- 45% of people say they’ve already experienced a sunburn this year, with that number going up for younger generations - 61% for Gen Z and 58% for Millennials.
- Just one sunburn can increase a person’s risk of skin cancer, and it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people wouldn’t know if they had it.
- 45% of Americans say they are doubtful they would be able to detect a cancerous mole on their body.
- 43% have never had a full skin exam.
- 33% haven’t been checked out of financial concerns.
- Overall, 49% of people say they have a loved one who has or had skin cancer.
- Such a personal connection does lead folks to be more protective.
- In fact, 32% of those who know someone who has or had skin cancer are likely to wear sunscreen year-round, as compared to 19% who don’t know anyone.
