Mom Worries She’s A Bad Parent Because She Finds Child Boring

While most moms love their children unconditionally, that doesn’t necessarily mean they always enjoy being around them, and that’s the case with one mother who is worried she’s a bad mom because she finds her daughter boring.

The mother shared on netmums that she’s feeling guilty because she’s having a tough time connecting with her nine year old.

"This is going to sound awful so please no hate, but I just don't know how to engage more with my 9-year-old. I find myself struggling to make conversation, and just generally being a relaxed, normal parent" she writes. "The days feel really long sometimes. She'll talk to me about her video games and I'll watch her dance. And we go out places. But it's often quiet… Boring?"

She then posed the question, "Any suggestions on how I can relax and just be a proper mum, please,” with folks offering up their advice, and many reassuring her she is not a bad mother at all.

  • "I often find myself nodding along to what he tells me when I’m not really that interested,” one person shared. “I know that sounds awful but as long as my son sees me listening and being supportive then we’re both happy."
  • "Parenthood is mainly boring,” another offers. “If you can find one interest that you really share with your child, you're doing well."
  • Finally another noted, "Remember, most of the time pretending to be interested is enough,” adding, “It's also worth pointing out that you don't have to entertain your child every waking hour. It's ok to take time for yourself."
