How To Combat Higher Prices This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, but for many it won’t be a happy one thanks to rising prices due to inflation. In fact, a new survey finds some people may not be having Thanksgiving at all this year because it will be too expensive.

A survey by Personal Capital finds:

  • About on-in-four of Americans say that in order to save money they plan to skip Thanksgiving this year.
  • 74% of people still plan to celebrate the holiday though.
  • And 68% still plan to host Thanksgiving dinner this year.
  • Some hosts have thought of ways to help offset the higher costs of the holidays this year.
  • 57% plan to keep it small in order to save money.
  • 52% plan to ask guests to bring some dishes or items.
  • 42% expect to ask guests to contribute money towards the cost of Thanksgiving.
  • 53% plan on making fewer dishes.
  • 88% plan to cut at least one dish from their holiday menu to decrease costs.
  • Dishes most likely to be cut include:
    • Brussel Sprouts
    • Squash
    • Creamed Spinach
    • Carrots
  • Dishes people would never think of cutting include:
    • Turkey
    • Gravy
