Unless you’re a couple who want to snuggle during a flight, there are few people who actually enjoy sitting in a middle seat on an airplane. But somebody’s got to sit there, and Virgin Australia thinks they have found a way to incentivize booking it.
The airline just launched a campaign that basically offers the potential for prizes if you either choose the middle seat or get assigned to it involuntarily. Those people can enter a “lotto” to win prizes, with the airline offering up $230,000 worth of prizes, and many of them are really good.
There will be a new prize and winner every week, and prizes include things like a cruise in the Caribbean with Virgin Voyages, with return Premium Economy flights to the USA with United Airlines, flights and tickets to your Australian Football League team’s away games in 2023, a helicopter pub crawl, including return flights to Darwin and more.
To be eligible for prizes, travelers must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member 18 or older, and have sat in a middle seat on a Virgin Australia-operated domestic flight by April 23rd of next year. They also must enter the Middle Seat Lottery via the airline’s app within 48 hours of their flight’s scheduled departure time.
