We Spent More Time Volunteering Over The Past Year

While the past year has been hard on most people, it has resulted in a few positive things, and that includes more people helping out others in need in some form or another.

A new survey finds:

  • 65% of folks say the past year has served a “wake up call” that they need to do more for their communities.
  • 52% did that by volunteering more over the last 12 months.
  • The most common ways folks have served their community include:
    • Delivering food to essential workers (35%)
    • Volunteering to help elderly or otherwise incapacitated neighbors maintain their homes (23%)
    • Collecting items for food pantries (21%)
    • Volunteering at a food pantry (20%)
    • Donating blood (19%)
  • As for what motivated folks to volunteer, 35% say it was simply knowing their friends and neighbors needed help.
  • 17% say watching their friends and neighbors help other inspired them to join in.
  • And while things are starting to get back to “normal,” many people don’t plan to stop contributing.
  • 75% say getting out there and doing the work to help others is more fulfilling than simply donating money or items to help their community.
  • 70% say that once more people are vaccinated they plan to increase their time volunteering.

Did you do a lot of volunteering over the past year? What types of things did you do?
