Women Share Tips To Stay Safe When Going Out Alone

Going out to eat or for a drink alone isn’t easy for a lot of people. Not only can it simply feel awkward, but for women, sadly, there’s the added concern over safety. Well, there are some things women can do to feel safer when heading out on their own, and gals are sharing their secrets.

It all started when someone on Reddit asked gals for tips on how to go out to bars alone, and plenty of women were happy to share some helpful and clever suggestions.

They include:

  • "NEVER leave your drink unattended, and you MUST let someone know where you are."
  • "I share my location on my phone to family, tell them the name of the person I'm meeting up with (and send them a link to socials), and tell them where I am going/when I will be back."
  • "Don’t accept drinks from anyone unless the bartender hands it to you."
  • "Along with the bartender rule, my rule is to watch them open it/pour it."
  • "If you think you are being followed or if you hear somebody behind you, feel free to turn around and look directly at them because it shows you are not afraid to be aware of your surroundings."
  • "Pick a bar with a calmer vibe — somewhere that serves food is usually a good idea."
  • "Use windows as mirrors to check behind you. Literally every window you walk past, you should take a quick glance to know what’s going on behind you..."
  • "Try to go to a bar near your home, so if you have any doubts you can go back quickly. Also, the regulars and staff at the bar are more likely to know your face since you live in the neighborhood and more likely to look after you."
  • "If I think you might hurt me and I say something like, 'You look familiar, have we met? I could never forget those eyes. We must have met before.' You are less likely to hurt me because I can pick you out of a line up. You are less likely to drug me because I know exactly who you are."
