Brendan Fraser is BACK... and we are here for it!
While the actor himself says he was never far away, it has been a minute since he was a box-office draw - something that may change with the release of his highly acclaimed star turn in the Darren Aronofsky-directed "The Whale".
The peak of Fraser's stardom is arguably the trio of "Mummy" movies, the third of which came out in 2008. Almost fifteen years later, Fraser's ready to once again head to Egypt. “I don’t know how it would work,” he admits. “But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.”
The movie was rebooted in 2017, with Tom Cruise doing battle with the bandaged boogeyman - a movie that wasn't exactly a hit. Fraser believes he knows why it came up short: “It is hard to make that movie,” he says. “The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
“I know how difficult it is to pull it off,” Fraser adds. “I tried to do it three times.”
