George Birge, Luke Bryan Join Forces On Powerful Cowboy Anthem

George Birge teamed up with Luke Bryan on a modern “cut-to-the-bone cowboy song,” which made its debut on Friday (February 6).

Birge wrote “Ride Ride Ride” with Tyler HubbardCasey Brown and Parker Welling. Brown also produced the track, which “simmers with a brooding intensity as Birge narrates a barroom encounter with an aging cowboy,” states a press release issued Friday morning. “Although the song starts out with its protagonist seeking to drown his sorrows and numb his pain, the story soon takes a turn as the cowboy shares what he’s learned from decades of hard living. …With its gut-punching message of gritty resilience, the result is an unforgettable anthem that forgoes false optimism in favor of soul-saving truth.”

Birge teased a mystery collaboration partner on social media before he revealed last week that Bryan joined him on the song. Birge shared a clip on January 28, contemplating sending a text to the mystery artist to invite him to sing on the track (though he figured, “there’s no way he’s going to say yes to this”). Once Birge sent the text, Bryan appeared in the frame. He’d been sitting next to the “Mind On You” star the whole time. Bryan tapped Birge on the shoulder and said, “George. I’m right here.”

“I’ve respected Luke Bryan’s career for a long time,” Birge said in a statement on Friday. “It’s still crazy to me that I get to call him a mentor and a friend, and when I wrote this song, I knew I had to ask him to be a part of it. It’s an honor to share this one with him, and it’s a message I think a lot of people could use right now.”

Bryan included Birge on his tour lineup last year. That’s when Birge played the song for Bryan for the first time, and when he invited the five-time Entertainer of the Year to collaborate with him it was a no brainer.

“George was on the road with me last year and we were catching up after a show one night,” Bryan recalled. “I asked him to play me a song and he played this one. I loved the message and just thought he and the other writers had knocked it out of the park. The next morning he asked me if I wanted to be on the song with him and I honestly didn't even hesitate. These are the kinds of moments that make me excited and I am proud to be a part of it.”
