State Senator Greg Leding (D-Fayetteville)has filed a resolution askingArkansas legislators to recognize Nolan Richardson's contributions to the University of Arkansas basketball program and to request the school name the basketball court after him.
Leding filed the resolution Wednesday, joining the movement to name the Bud Walton Arena court after Richardson.
As head coach, Richardson helped the Razorbacks dominate NCAA men's basketball in the 90s and won the 1994 NCAA Tournament Championship. The Razorbacks won that title by defeating Duke 76-72.
Under Richardson, the Hogs reached the Final Four on three separate occasions in the 90s.
He was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
University of Arkansas Chancellor Joe Steinmetz has submitted a resolution for consideration by the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees to name the court at Bud Walton Arena in honor of Nolan Richardson, a College Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and long-time Arkansas men’s basketball head coach.
