A squirrel in Colorado has tested positive for the bubonic plague. According to Jefferson County public health officials, a group of 15 squirrels were found dead recently in Morrison, CO. The squirrel that was tested came back positive for the deadly virus. Now, officials have issued a warning for humans and their pets. See the full video from CBS News below.
Bubonic Plague, though deadly centuries ago, is described as a severe infection in the lymph nodes. Bubonic Plague is also readily treatable in humans today with a variety of antibiotics. In fact, according to MedlinePlus.com, it has been known to occur in parts of Arizona, Colorado, California and New Mexico with cases reported annually.
