Women Are Suffering From Burn Out More Than Ever

These days it’s totally understandable to feel burned out at work, and according to a new survey, that’s particularly true for women in the workforce.

The “Women in the Workplace” survey from Lean In and McKinsey & Company finds:

  • Women are more burned out this year than they were in 2020.
  • 42% of women say they are burned out, compared to 35% of men.
  • That’s up from 32% of women and 28% of men in 2020.
  • Because of all this burnout, a third of women are actually considering quitting their jobs or “downshifting” their careers.

And the numbers are just as bad, if not wors, for mothers of young children.

  • Half of these moms say they often, or almost always feel burned out.
  • And one in three moms with young children are considering either leaving the workforce, or downshifting their career.
  • That number is an increase from last year, where one in four contemplated leaving or downshifting their career.
  • Of course it’s totally understandable why moms may be totally burned out.
  • The study finds they are five ties ore likely to be responsible for most or all of the childcare and housework.
  • And more than a third say they spend five hours or more each day handling such activities.
